Life story
February 3, 1977

Born in on February 3, 1977.
2008

Melissa was full of life we loved going over to our grandma`s house with our other sister Michelle to play on her tire swing and bake cookies.  Our mother would dress all three of us like we were triplets. we all three had blonde hair and as we got older our hair got darker and Melissa and I decided we would dye our hair completly darker because our ends were still blonde but our roots were dark it didn`t take too long we missed our blonde hair so we both went through the stage of having slightly orange hair before we could go back to beautiful bondes.  Melissa has two beautiful daughters that also have blonde hair and look just like their mother. When the girls are older I know we will have then chance to enjoy them in our lives and we will think of Melissa every time we see them. God Bless.

This was read at Melissa's second  memorial service on January 10, 2009 at Foreast Oaks Baptist Church in Houston, Texas

Melissa Sue Mims Platt is the daughter of Michael and Marian Mims. She has two sisters and one brother , Maria Ramsey of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Michelle Mims of Friendswood, Texas and  Michael Mims Jr of Baytown, Texas. She has two daughters, Brianna  and Chasidy Platt.

Melissa Sue Mims was born in Houston, Texas on February 3, 1977. She had hypoglycemia when she was born and had to stay in the hospital for a month. When she came home other than a bout with colic she was a happy and healthy baby, an adventurous and loving toddler.

When she was eight we moved from Houston, Texas to Jacksonville, North Carolina where we lived until she was twelve, at that time we moved back to Texas.

We moved to Baytown in 1989 where Melissa attended Horace Mann Middle School and Lee High School.  I only found this out after the fact but two of the things that she enjoyed doing with her sister Michelle was jumping off the roof of our house onto a mattress while the neighborhood kids looked on and riding on a piece of cardboard down the stairs in the back room. When Melissa was fifteen she worked at the McDonalds in Baytown, she was in charge of the Birthday parties that were done at the McDonalds and she really enjoyed that.

When she was sixteen she moved to Jacksonville to live with her older sister Maria and her three children, she babysat her niece Joanna and her nephews Brandon and Michael when her sister Maria was at work.

She gave birth to her first baby on October 1,1995, a beautiful daughter Brianna, Melissa was so full of happiness and love at the birth of her child. Her sister Maria was at her side when she gave birth  to share in her joy. She again experienced more love and happiness on July 4, 2003 at the birth of her second daughter, Chasidy. She got married in 2001 and seperated from her husband in 2005.

Melissa was a loving young woman and would help anyone in need, she had a bubbly personality, a smile that would make all those around her smile.

Melissa loved the race car driver Jeff Gordon, she would always tell her sister she wanted to marry him. She loved listening to music, she had a little parrot named Alvin that she adored.

She loved life, her children and her family. She was hurt on October 3, 2008 and was air-lifted to Pitt County Memorial Hospital  in Greenville, North Carolina on October 9, 2008. She fought long and hard but her little body could not fight all the damage that had been done to it and on December 17, 2008 at 7:17 pm she went to the Lord.
